@adytum_official: A 2026 Blood paper tested blood across four EDS types, hypermobile included, plus a classical-EDS mouse model. Their platelets activated poorly. Talin-1 picked up less phosphorylation, integrin alphaIIbbeta3 activated less, and the platelets aggregated and spread poorly. GPVI and PAR1 were lower too. The authors say platelet dysfunction likely contributes to bleeding complications in EDS. In the same group's earlier study, 32 of 52 EDS patients scored abnormal on a bleeding questionnaire, against 0 of 52 controls. The limit: one lab study, several EDS types, no human sample size we could verify. None of it establishes what causes one person's bruising. Not a doctor, not medical advice. Save this, tell your surgeon or dentist about your bruising history before a procedure, and tell me what you were told yours were. Sources: Kumskova M, et al. Blood. 2026;147(9):987-997. Huh, maybe this is why I feel like I have a bruise before it shows up on my skin. And probably why mine seem to hurt more than an average person’s.

Hmmm….yet another way my body said oh you think you’ve got hEDS figured out? I’ll just throw the opposite symptom at you! I clot unnaturally fast normally(there have been rare occasions when I don’t) but I still bruise easily and randomly though. I also build scar tissue at an exceedingly fast pace and the fast clotting may be related to the fast scarring and not to my hEDS because the scarring thing is yet another super, duper rare hereditary disorder, I’ve only ever heard of one person outside my immediate family and only ever encountered two doctors who had heard of it, the one who diagnosed me at 2 and an ER doctor when I split my head open when I was 6.

I wonder if, ITP, while probably rare is in that circle with HEDS POTS MCAS. My mom had ITP she had ever spleen removed because it was consuming all the platelets in her blood. I will randomly bump my foot or my knuckles and pop blood vessels with ease, leaving bruising for days. And I’ve been diagnosed with all of the four letter syndrome listed above.

My bruising gets very very severe with normal everything. I was recently diagnosed with autoerythrocyte sensitization syndrome. I wonder if they’re related lol

Check 35 altered proteins in EDS. Coagulation factor X is affected. Not as bad as in Hereditary Factor X deficiency, but bad enough to bleed profoundly.

I tend to bruise, days after expected. So if i i fk foot up BAD today, i might swell but no funky colours till i feel much improvement so day 6-11 is when wild colours develop.

I used to have one or two major nosebleeds a month. I'm talking "passing out on the bathroom floor in a puddle of my own blood" major. or a two hour one at work that resulted in my supervisor calling the ER to get advise. very interesting information

I have had low platelets for 15 years. Always just under the cutoff of normal. The only exceptions have been when I've been pregnant. Iron, ferritin, B12 fine, so I wonder if it truly is just and hEDS thing for me.
