@upspiral.life: Your whole family learns to read Dad's mood before he says a word. Here's how the pattern stops with you. Follow me then comment UPSPIRAL and I'll send you more information about my programs. You can also click the link in my bio. Maybe Dad grew up somewhere that fear got punished. Crying got mocked. Pain was something you swallowed and never brought up again. So he got hard. Controlled. He had to. That adaptation kept him alive in the house he grew up in. Then it became the weather everybody else has to live in. The family learns the signs. The look. The silence. The shift in his voice. The way he walks into a room. Nobody sits you down and teaches you this. You absorb it, because your nervous system is built to track threat and it gets very good at whatever you make it practice. So the kids become experts at reading the temperature of a room. Then they grow up and carry that skill everywhere. Work. Marriage. Friendships. Still scanning. Understanding where his behavior came from matters. It just doesn't obligate you to keep hosting it. You can love him. You can feel for the scared kid he used to be. And you can stop letting that scared kid set the rules for your family. Somebody eventually has to be the one who says I understand why this happened, and I'm still not handing it down. Maybe that's you. #UpSpiralLife #GenerationalTrauma #ToxicFamilyDrama #BreakTheCycle #FamilyPatterns
Honestly these parents had sometimes decades to heal, they chose to stay that way. Sorry.

At some point compassion runs out. Keep your distance, sometimes great distances and have compassion for yourself and your family.

This is perfect. My husband is full of anger. His parents, his siblings and all around him put up with it then I inherited it. Left him after 5 years

Love, forgive and pray for them. Keep distance if the toxic cruelty continues. And yes tone gets passed down and sibling turns to triangulation. Run don’t walk. Protect your peace. It’s biblical. All the therapy in the world won’t make someone want the best for you.

Don't forget the mom that had no empathy, was self righteous, and had the attitude "boys will be boys" She expected you to be an image for her.

Yes, but this is only 1 story. My husband had severe childhood trauma tgat was repressed until he was 57 yo. He had signs of something as he would go quiet at times. He us an amazing father and husband, but not perfect. Yes, it affects us all, but everyone carries something from their past, but we don't break off all relation with them or blame them for all our mistakes or uncomfortable feelings.
