@katkamalani: Within seconds this 7/8yr old was under. It was silent. Thank goodness the grandma had her eye on her grandson. And thank goodness it wasn’t a busy pool so I could easily see what was happening. I can’t believe how fast, silent and quickly it can happen. Thank goodness he is ok. It truly could happen to anyone 😭🙏🏼

Thank you for saving that child. I’ve read that playing Tetris for at least 20 min within 6 hours of traumatic event can help w/ flashbacks and PTSD.

I should clarify because I was in such shock. They were playing at a splash pad with my kids. My kids are amazing swimmers and when they came back to the pool my kids just jumped in the deep end like usual and her grandson forgot he didn’t have floaters and went under. That’s when I asked the gma and drove into the pool. It was a very fast very quick mistake. This gma did everything right. 🤍

Good lesson for parents on floaties! While they’re great, they teach a false sense of security.

my MIL took my son swimming on Labor Day. I explained to her you cannot take your eyes off him , he has to wear his life jacket at all times . BTW he's only 3. she brings him back home and tells me he jumped into the pool without his life jacket on and went under the water because she took it off after they got out of the pool and acted like she didn't know that would happen. I was furious. thankfully he was ok but she's not allowed to take him swimming again. like you said it takes seconds.

My kid wouldn’t be going with his grandma anymore. What do you mean he can’t swim and you’re not making sure his floaties are on?

My mom did that once at swim team practice. They girl got tired in the deep end, she was maybe 8..lifeguard was taking her pants off. My mom jumped in, it was winter. She went in with her coat, boots, everything..saved her. The lifeguard said I was going to get her and my mom said you took too long.

As a former pool lifeguard this happened a lot. Kids get excited and don’t think. Good job!!!! I can’t relax at a pool or the beach. I’m always watching people.

As someone who lifeguard…. It’s always just seconds. They are not kidding when they say blink of an eye is enough to drown.

Drowning is so silent. My daughter fell into the pool 2 feet from me. I heard nothing. The look of terror in her eyes I will never forget. Thank God I saved her.

Hey mama. I say this with a lot of love, but take care of yourself this week. If you maybe wanted to talk to someone, it wouldn’t be unusual or an overreaction. As someone who’s worked in rescue, doing that (even with a very happy ending), is traumatic and your brain can do some silly things. Just know it’s normal, whatever you’re feeling. And people can help. Don’t sit in it.

Drowning happens SO FAST! My nephew took one step too far into the deep end and couldn't catch his footing. 3 of us went after him and I yanked him up so fast. but it really does happen so fast. I dont think ppl realize.
