That is exactly one dollar a litre in twelve months. Gasoline over the same period went from 143.9 to 181.9, and is still falling. Gasoline is seasonal. Summer ends, demand drops, refiners switch to a cheaper winter blend. Diesel runs the other way, into heating, harvest and freight season. Now the operator layer. Same crude, separate markets, and a refinery can only shift yield between them so far. US diesel set an all-time record of $5.901 a gallon on 8 September, beating the June 2022 peak while crude traded about $28 a barrel cheaper than it did then. The US diesel crack normally runs $15 to $25. On 3 September it hit $108. Data gives visibility.
