Hmm you don't say :
I'll keep saying this until I die. Boomers have absolutely NO IDEA that we're not in highschool anymore. we're in our 30s & 40s now

my mum was like this to my brother. He now has 2 beautiful sons who are amazing kids. His sons are loved and cared for. It really wasn't hard for him to just treat his children right. ❤️

Spanking. I’ll never understand the spanking of our parents generation. The only thing I walked away with was the physical feeling of being hit, not the “lesson.” All I carried with me was to be a people pleaser. I could NEVER do that to my own child.

It’s going to be “wait till they get older.” 🫩 it’s exhausting because they’ll only realize how wrong they were once they’re alone in the deathbed.

Becoming a step parent actually made me go no contact with my mom. It was so painful and sobering to realize that I cared for my step daughter in a way i never was growing up, and it came so easily.

my mum used to say she hoped I'd have a daughter just like me one day what? a probably undiagnosed autistic but otherwise normal child? oh.... oh noooooo. how awful. granted having kids does sound like hell and I won't be doing that, but come on. how hard can it be to NOT lay hands on a child?? to not threaten to punch them in the face? to not tell them you don't like them through gritted teeth? like.... surely not that hard.

I’m not having kids because I fear I’d be like my dad. I have anger problems, so does he, and I love my kids so much to never have them

yeah, having a kid only proved how poor my parents were. it's not hard to love your child, I have evidence now.

my dad would say the same thing about conservative politics....like, nah, you just don't think people deserve support and should unnecessarily suffer simply because of their existence 😒

Having kids made me realize how shitty my mom was … she used to say “just wait until you have a kid. I hope they’re just like you.” Well - they are and they’re easy to love dunno what her problem is…

The only thing I understand now.tjat am older is "There is food at home" and "Money doesn't grow on trees" The rest was just toxic family dynamics being passed on with no one bothering to break the generational trauma training.

They will never admit that they were horrible. My 80 yo FIL doesn’t understand why his wife left him after 50 years and all four kids and their children don’t talk to him any more. Even after each one of them sat down with him to tell him all the stupid and abusive shit he did to them. His response, “I don’t remember doing that.”

My mother did this… when you’re older… when your kids are older… ok I have 4 kids. Two are over 18. She still kept saying you’ll get it when I’m older… I am older then she was when she started saying this

THIS. The benchmark just kept moving. It was at the age of 40 - my kids were about 10 and 14 - that it finally sunk in it was never going to change, because my mom started to use my kids as a tool of manipulation against me. It was like that scene in Legally Blonde when Elle looks at Warner and says, "I'm never going to be good enough for you, am I?" It dawned on me that it was necessary for her to keep moving the benchmark in order to continue to be able to maintain power and control over me. Going no contact was one of the hardest but best things I ever did for myself.

The thing is, nobody has all of the answers. At 67, I'm still learning and growing. I didn't have any answers until I hit 60. I did the best I could and have apologized to my adult kids for being clueless when raising them. Some folks NEVER evolve and see their mistakes. Live your best life and do the best you can.
