My orange guy is the same. We toss empty food boxes by the door to take out separately so they don't fill up or puncture the kitchen trash bags. Binx can't ever remember that he doesn't fit into a PB Capt Crunch cereal box - that one brain cell fails him terribly with this. But he will try and fail to fit inside one of those boxes every time we throw one down. After an eternity of him forgetting he won't fit by fighting the box with all his might, he makes a huge production of slapping the shit out of the poor box (as if it's the box's fault) before jumping on it repeatedly to squish tf out of it until it's flat. Then (with his head geld high and his tail fluffed out) he'll gracefully spin a few circles before sitting on top of it with triumph on his face. We call the Peanut Butter Capt Crunch Cereal boxes his "emotional support box"😹.
