@itsstillthatkid: 30 Years of Dragon Ball Z in America 🐉 30 years ago today, Dragon Ball Z made its debut on American television. On September 13, 1996, a whole generation of us was introduced to Goku, Vegeta, Gohan and a show that would become a massive part of growing up. So for the anniversary, I wanted to go back to Vegeta. Because out of everybody in DBZ, his relationship with being “enough” has always been one of the most interesting to me. He spent so much of his life measuring himself against somebody else. Every loss became proof that he needed to train harder. Get stronger. Catch up. Win. And I think a lot of us do the adult version of that. Someone has more money. A better job. A bigger following. They got married first. Bought the house. Had kids. Look happier. Seem further ahead. So you move the finish line again. Maybe when I get that, I’ll finally feel good about myself. Except you can spend your entire life winning a competition the other person doesn’t even know they’re in. Vegeta eventually had things worth caring about that had nothing to do with proving he was better than somebody else. And weirdly, that might have been some of his biggest growth. Maybe getting older is realizing you don’t actually have to beat everybody. You just have to build a life you don’t constantly feel the need to compare to theirs. Who was your favorite DBZ character growing up? #DragonBallZ #DBZ #Vegeta #90sKids #MillennialNostalgia
