@erikschaefer7: Experimenting with a magnifying glass, sunlight, and how concentrating that light creates heat and fire. Seems like obvious common knowledge, but I think this is a good representation of why you should never look at the sun through a telescope without a proper solar filter, and this is the lesser version of what would happen to your eye. A telescope's optics are much larger than this lens, so it would direct far more heat and light through the eyepieces magnification, causing much quicker damage. #sunlight #solar #magnifyingglass #telescope #scienceexperiments
I saw a demonstration with a cow eyeball once. It’s one thing when it’s paper or something, but seeing an ACTUAL EYE melt when put up to an eyepiece of a 6” scope made my skin crawl. I’m horrifically afraid of the sun now
