@_melissamarieofficial2.0: 401k pitfall 2: Experiencing MARKET LOSSES is another major risk of the 401(k). 📉💰 Your account may look great while the market is performing well, but your balance can also DROP when the market falls. And the closer you are to retirement, the less time you may have to recover from a major downturn. This is why retirement planning should not only be about how much money you can GROW. You also need to think about how much you can PROTECT. Depending on your age, employment status, plan rules, and financial situation, you may have the option to roll over some or all of your retirement funds into an insurance product such as a fixed indexed annuity. With a fixed indexed annuity, your money is NOT directly invested in the stock market, so you are protected from direct market losses while having the opportunity to earn interest based in part on the performance of an index, subject to the contract terms. You spent YEARS building your retirement. At some point, protecting what you built may become just as important as growing it. 🛡️ 📲 If market losses are something you’re concerned about and you want to explore whether an annuity may be suitable for you, book a FREE consultation with me through the link in my bio. #401k #MarketLoss #Retirement #Retirement #Annuity

401ks are not scams. You are able to tax deffer and grow a portfolio. You are also able to borrow against it, you should never take the lump sum out. Meet with a financial planner. You set the fund up for dividends and have the dividends distributed out. Some say 2 - 4% annually. 120k goal was a small goal. If it was 120k and close to retirement it should have been in less risky options. They need to teach this to the public because ssi isn't enough.

He didn’t put much in it! You don’t lose anything until you sale it. He shouldn’t have sold any of it until the market came back. He failed to invest it correctly.

401K was a loop hole for corporations to get tax breaks to give you a little match and not commit to a pension

when was this filmed back in 1961? I don’t know what $120,000 would get you right now. I burned through that with my pension once a year. And also somebody did not tell that kind gentleman that you can move your assets around from mutual funds to bond, funds, etc., etc. etc..

None of this makes sense. Why did he have so much exposure to the market that close to retirement? If he’s retirement age, how did he lose half to taxes?
