This video is actually spot on. You have to find what works for you and not these textbook answers. For some? Total abstinence is the only option. However, I am going on 5 years and I am able to have a drink here and there without taking it too far but I rarely do. Alcohol, Rugs, Gambling, etc. is the solution, not the problem.

I’ve been saying this for 13 years with absolutely everything. They did a study on veterans in Vietnam and when they came back, those that had family and friends, were able to process their PTSD better and they have jobs and purpose. Those that didn’t have community or family all turned to drugs to deal with their PTSD. They did this with a famous mice study as well. They provided the white stuff and food in the same cage, and they had tons of toys and play items, those mice hardly ever went to the white. When it was the same but no toys and no other mice, they all turned to white powder. Animals and humans need purpose, need community, and need connection. Hence also why people develop addictions as well on the other side. Because following someone else doing drugs or alcohol, if it keeps you having that in common for your friendship, people will hurt themselves because it creates connection. So it’s not about the drugs or alcohol. It’s the connection. Show me a homeless person, and if they were sound enough to tell me their story, every single one would display lack of family, friends and support growing up and lack of community and that’s why they start their downfall. When you don’t have a purpose or people, you will either suffer for it, or suffer for them because you want it. Period.

But you also have self awareness and will power and a lot of people lack that, on top of having an addictive personality

yeah I agree with you, it is different to most people but I believe we should not generalize "it is the addiction problem" sometimes its the alcohol fault or its the person's problem. Bc our brains are differents bc of genetics and creations for someone their brain only know gambling from young to old, their brains are literally wired to that, they cant change by willpower and sometimes its not their fault even when they want something different. we dont live in a just world that is sad, glad to see something worked to you

Yes. Pretty much every recovery program teaches that. Alcohol is just a symptom of the problem. 🥰

yeah but you can say this and also say that alcohol itself is also part of the problem, we are more susceptible to it than other people. two things can be true at once
