Read in context they are one in purpose; Trinitarian theology, however, loads that unity with an ontology the text never states. “One” becomes homoousios, of the same essence or substance. That is not Scripture’s language, but a later metaphysical framework read back into the text.

Matthew 19:5,6 is another great example “A man will leave his Father and his Mother and will stick to his wife, and the two will be ONE Flesh, so they are no longer two but one flesh” John 17:21-23 also shows evidence of unity, united in a common cause.

Proverbs 8:22 “Jehovah produced me as the beginning of his way, The earliest of his achievements of long ago.” God does not have a beginning nor was he created. This verse shows that Jesus was his FIRST creation, therefore they are 2 distinctly separate beings.

The interesting thing is when people try to explain that Jesus is God because of the trinity, they always point to scriptures that allude to Jesus only. But if God is a trinity why would the Holy Spirit keep getting left out? Even when Christians say Jesus is God isn’t that only giving glory to 1/3 of God? They are leaving out the Father and the Holy Spirit. Even in John 1:1 where it says that the word was God is not conclusive because why would it say “was God” and not “is God”? How can you be God and then not be God? Almost everyone of Paul’s letters begin with God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. If God is a trinity, why doesn’t he even mention the Holy Spirit? And when Jesus prayed, why didn’t he ever address his prayers to the Holy Spirit too but he only prayed to the Father. It is because of sin that we are alienated from God, but then God can come and rub shoulders with us? That is why Jesus was the mediator between God and man 1 Timothy 2:5. If two parties have a disagreement, how can one of the parties mediate the disagreement? That wouldn’t make any sense. There is no court room where either the plaintiff or the defendant gets to mediate the court hearing.

In Deuteronomy 6:4 it's not talking about a composite God but in the context of the times false gods such as Baal for instance were worshipped in different ways depending on location. Jehovah was making the point that regardless of local customs or location He was the same Jehovah and therefore there was still only one way he should be worshipped.
