And did you know that admission is usually free? 💴 Of course, you'll have to pay for food or games you try (bring cash!), but other than that, admission is free*! ⛩️ Festivals, or matsuri 祭り, are a quintessential part of Japanese culture. Some are very old and traditional, carrying portable shrines (mikoshi 神輿); while others are fireworks festivals (hanabi taikai 花火大会) or summer festivals (natsu matsuri 夏祭り); each with their own unique vibe! 🗼 2026 Tokyo traditional matsuri (feel free to check other cities and dates!): Sanja Matsuri 三社祭- May 15-17 Kanda Matsuri神田祭- May 9-10 Shitaya Matsuri下谷神社大祭- May 8-10 Torikoe Matsuri鳥越祭- June 6-7, 9 🎆 Summer and Fireworks festivals- seriously, there are tons throughout the whole country.
