Why would the fan not be running if the comp was having issues? What was the fan size on that cap

A bigger capacitor probably would have accomplished the same thing. Also, why wouldn’t you test the run side of the capacitor while there? And hopefully you checked the charge once you got it running and checked the relay. A dying relay can cause all that too. Throwing in a bandaid and not fully determining root cause is shady.

had this same exact issue on a carrier heat pump, turned out to be the defrost board. im not an hvac tech just a maintenance guy but the capacitor is always the first thing I check and make sure the fan blade is spinning the right way.

Bro, the compressor was probably cutting off on a Thermo overload because the condenser fan was not running 🤔🤔🤔🤔

I guess they had no maintenance on their system .this is important .thank you for your honesty it matters, not just trying, sell them a new unit.i just had one put in 3 ton at 14,349 very pricey

Just be sure to tell then they need to start saving for a new unit.
.
Honestly, if the unit is 8+ years old, the hard start kit can last several years... But if it's relatively new and the compressor is already going bad, you may get a year out of it... if you're lucky.
