Authorities say that in April 2024, Ruth took her family to Atwood Lake for what she called a “test of faith.” Her husband, Marcus, was the first one to try it. In the middle of the night, he walked into the water, saying he was going to prove his belief by swimming to a sandbar. But he never made it—he drowned right there in front of her. And instead of calling for help? Ruth told their kids to just pray for him, that “God would save him.” But things got worse. Hours later, Ruth claimed that God wanted her to “give” her 4-year-old son, Vincen, as another offering. So she took him to the dock, picked him up, and threw him straight into the lake. She admitted to deputies later that she believed she was acting on God’s orders. Their three other children—a 15-year-old girl and 18-year-old twin boys—were also told to do “faith trials” in the water, but they survived.
