🚨Handling the “useless” manager PART 2 👇 🧠 Argh having a manager who is disorganised and appears self- absorbed can be infuriating as you just don’t get your needs met as the direct report 🚫 Unless it feels unsafe I would avoid saying nothing as from experience when we say nothing it tends to leak out in unhelpful ways for example explosive outbursts or passive aggressive behaviour ▶️ Choose a time to open up a conversation with them and talk to them about how you feel (don’t forget to check it’s also a good time for them- as shown in this video) 💡The important thing is to AVOID criticising them as they will likely become defensive and you’ll get no where. Instead focus on the fact you have different working styles. Remember always focus on the behaviour not the person. ✅ Before you speak to them make sure to be clear on what you need from them. Focus on what you WANT not what you don’t want. For example a protected 1:1 every week or a check in to discuss any challenges you’re facing and the support you might need. 📌 Please remember the advice offered in this video is generalised. You know your situation better than anyone else so trust your instincts, if this doesn’t fit your situation ignore it.
