Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarist Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, with Hoffmann being the only constant member. As of 2024, the band has released seventeen studio albums, five live albums and nine compilation albums. From "Band X" to Accept: The band was originally formed in 1968 in Solingen, Germany, under the name Band X. They officially changed their name to Accept in 1971, drawing inspiration from a Chicken Shack album of the same name. Born from Gibberish: The famous song "Lady Lou" from their 1980 album I'm a Rebel was practically written by accident. Before he learned English, vocalist Udo Dirkschneider used to just sing made-up, gibberish syllables over the instruments live. The band liked the sound, decoded the phonetic noises with a dictionary, and named the track. Producer Power: Former Band X member Michael Wagener went on to become one of the most famous heavy metal record producers. He later produced Accept’s breakthrough third album, Breaker (1981). A 50-Year Legacy: The band marked their 50th anniversary by collaborating with a staggering 50 guest heavy metal musicians (including members of Judas Priest and Scorpions) on a reimagined hits album. The Modern Frontman: In 2009, long after Udo Dirkschneider left to pursue his solo career, Accept recruited American singer Mark Tornillo to front the band. He quickly became the longest-running lead vocalist in the band's history. Judas Priest Ties: Accept and Judas Priest first toured together in 1981, with Accept acting as the opening act.
