@.politicallyspeaking: NOTE: this is specifically about the pro ED communities, not just anyone with disordered eating. Obviously give them the mental health care and compassion they need and deserve but accountability for posting this shit needs to be more

It's often a competitive disorder, much like self harm.

Back in my ed tumblr era a voice of reason in between these messages would be helpful. It felt like losing touch with reality sometimes - all I did and thought revolved around how I’m a failure and should punish myself, which made me feel better about myself, and everyone else in these tumblr posts was just like me, so the social bubble make it all feel less insane. If someone who knows how this all works countered this bs with facts I’d either hate them to actually listen

Back in like 2018 I was a leader of a club at school and I remember one younger student coming up to me to ask for help convincing her friend to eat, she would've only been like 14 and thought she had to starve herself. It was my first time being asked to help with that so no clue if what I said helped but I was studying biology at A-level so explain what your body needs to function, how putting your body in starvation mode is gonna have the opposite effect she wanted, basically "Getting skinny this way isn't going to make you feel better because you won't be able to do anything or function as a human being." I don't remember her name but I hope she's doing better.

Almost every other illness or disorder form a community to support and make eachother feel better and support eachs hraling journey when these ed communities come together to sabotage and compete.

So weaponise their fear of cringe to move them away from Pro-Ana content? That makes a lot of sense!

I back that because they know what they’re doing and I block every time and they’ve got capacity to know what they’re doing and they should be incredibly embarrassed and they will be in a few years!!!

It’s so fucking terrifying how we’re just trotting straight back to the whole thinspo/pro-ana thing we had going on the 2000-2010’s. You’d think the work we did collectively as a society would mean that this shit would improve 🤷🏻‍♀️

These kinds of tiktoks and online media in general played a big part in me developing an eating disorder. Because of them I got physically sick many times after eating because of the guilt and developed a very very strong emetophobia, which made me scared to eat anything. There were times when I could only wat with a sip of water after every single bite to stop me from throwing up. It has been YEARS and I'm still not over it and still have fear foods and really bad days. I'm writing this down just so everyone knows how toxic and harful these trends are and NEVER ever to search them up. It's easy to slip into EDs, and it's very hard to get over them
