A little Teagan update 🤍 Last week, Teagan suddenly wasn’t eating like she normally does. She ended up losing about 5 oz, so we decided it was time to take her to the ER at University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City. She was admitted for dehydration, and because there was concern for a possible UTI, they started her on antibiotics. Unfortunately, she’s still not eating well. At this point, we think a big part of it may be her EB affecting her mouth and making eating painful. After talking with her doctors, we’ve decided that a G-tube is the right next step to help make sure she can get the nutrition she needs to grow and stay healthy. We would really like to have the G-tube placed at Lurie Children’s because of their experience caring for children with EB, and her doctors agree that transferring her there is the best move. So right now… we’re in the waiting game, hoping we can get everything lined up and get her there quickly. Today she had a swallow study, and we found out she is aspirating because of her laryngomalacia. As scary as that news is, it gives us even more reason to move forward with the G-tube. Until we can get her safely transferred, they’re planning to place an NG tube tomorrow so she can get the nutrition she needs without continuing to risk aspiration while we wait. Even through all of this, Teagan also turned 5 months old! And she is still our happy girl. 💕 She’s smiling, soaking up all the attention, and mean-mugging anyone who dares to mess with her. 😂 We’ve also tried to find some little moments of normalcy while we’ve been here. We were able to get out of the hospital for a bit, explore some Hawkeye tailgating, and even witness the famous Wave during the Iowa–Iowa State game. 🖤💛 We got to celebrate a Hawkeye win, followed by a Bills win ❤️💙—so we’ll definitely take those little bright spots while we’re here. We’re hoping for more answers soon, a smooth transfer, and most importantly, for Teagan to get the care she needs as quickly as possible. Our girl is tough.
