From my experience as a tailor, I’ve learned that recreating an outfit from a picture doesn’t always mean you can reproduce every single detail exactly. Sometimes a client brings me a reference and expects the finished outfit to look 100% identical. But there are things in that picture I may not have access to, the exact fabric, colour, texture, embroidery, buttons, accessories, or even the way the outfit was styled. And even if we use a similar fabric, it may behave differently when cut and sewn. There’s also the person wearing it. Your body is different from the person in the reference, so I may need to adjust certain parts of the design to make it look good on you. Personally, when I get a reference, I don’t just focus on copying it piece by piece. I look at what makes the design work and how I can recreate that same feel while making it suitable for my client. So I always tell myself that the goal is not just to copy the picture, the goal is to recreate the idea and make it work beautifully for the person wearing it. Because sometimes, the best recreation isn’t the one that looks exactly like the picture. It’s the one that looks like it was made specifically for you. #tulscouture #myth #naijatiktok🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬
