Understanding grammar is not the same as being able to use it when you speak. You might understand a sentence perfectly when you read it, but speaking is different. You have to retrieve the grammar and build the sentence yourself, often in just a few seconds. That’s why this exercise is useful: Read a grammatically correct sentence. Look away and reproduce it from memory. Check your accuracy. Repeat until you can say it correctly. Then create several new sentences using the same pattern. You’re moving from recognising the grammar → retrieving it → using it to express your own ideas. And that last step matters. If you want grammar to become more automatic when you speak, don’t just study more grammar. Practise building more sentences.
