This giant tower forms the heart of the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU), where crude oil begins its journey through the refining process. The enormous column was fabricated in China and transported from Ningbo to Lagos, Nigeria. In December 2019, the final challenge began—moving, rigging, lifting, and precisely positioning this massive piece of refinery equipment. Heavy-lift specialist Mammoet carried out the installation using its 5,000-tonne-capacity PTC200-DS super heavy-lift ring crane, supported by a 1,600-tonne crawler crane.
