I've seen alot of photos on reddit of ground zero and how in most area surrounding the towers there was just scattered human chunks of flesh/mounds. Not even fully intact limbs, just pieces of blobs/slime because people were so flattened from jumping.

The fires burned for months under the rubble. They would take loads of the debris to the landfill. Cops would put on hazmat suits and the rubble would be dumped onto conveyor belts. They would sift through for body parts. If they found something they would blow a horn to stop the belt. One day they found a hand clenched. Inside was a child’s hand. They did this job for months. It’s horrific

It was massive and took years to sift through and I remember it still burning months later when we went passed it on the way through the city. They used the old SI dump for this. My hs bio teacher was part of the forensic group who worked on and they worked to identify absolutely anything they possible could from the ruble. And still over 1000 peoples remains were never identified. They’re still working on identifications with new technologies.

Idk if you guys knew this, but most of the sand that was cleaned up was actually dumped into the Hudson and it was so much sand and so much ash it ended up creating a new island..

I was 20 when this happened and live in NJ so I know how large the scope was— I went to ground zero in November of that year… and it was still incomprehensible

I was in 12th grade but ended up working for a company in that black building straight out of college. I’ll never forget walking into a conference room for a meeting and having a direct view into the enormous hole where the towers used to be.

I was a flight attendant based in NYC in 1990. The towers were massive. I remember visiting the WTC plaza, looking up, but refusing to go inside (premonition?). In 2001, I lived in Kansas. There was a marked difference in reactions between people who had seen the towers in person and those who hadn’t. For me, I imagined that disaster from every angle, read everything available. Still do.

I was 11 and live on long island. 30 miles away maybe, I remember smelling that burning smell, they would make announcements at school over the loud speakers to close the windows.

I grew up in NJ right across the river from NYC. I saw the towers every single day and watched them collapse. I don’t think people truly understand the magnitude of those buildings.

I recommend watching Rob Riggle's interview on American Veterans Center's YouTube, he mentioned how the first couplde days they had to move rubble by hand in fear that heavy machinery may cause collapses/cave-ins

My girlfriend got to the towers as the second plane hit. She and another person took shelter in a nearby bank lobby. Soon after, they decided to run east, away from the towers. She said once they opened the door, the ground was covered with recognizable body parts as well as masses of pink blobs. The ground was covered. The man she was with said, “ just don’t look down and we’ll run”. So, she ran across body parts and remains to get away.
