@ailishsilvester: It goes without saying, it might surprise you that I’m not a financial advisor so use your discretion when listening to anything I say (ever lol) but I am someone who found myself in a silly amount of debt at a really young age when I didn’t need to be in debt and would have really loved to hear something like this 7 years ago 🤍 #finance #financetiktok #creditcard #debt #debtfreejourney
This is legit incredible - would you come on my podcast and chat with me about it?!

Hard relate honey, I was in 20k debt at 22 years old from zip pay and a credit card. I think it’s significantly more common than we think but everyone holds too much shame to talk about it, myself included. Good on you for sharing!! ❤️

I was 23 with 40k of debt and such a similar story! Nothing to show for it, just those small purchases stacking up like crazy. Now about to turn 30 and going to Europe in a few weeks, paid cash and so proud!

I was 20 earning 50k a year and was approved for a platinum Amex with a 30k a month limit😅 I called them to ask if it was legit and they cancelled the card. THANK GOD

I have never had a CC because I knew very well that I would go overboard. I have however had a severe Afterpay addiction, only very recently stopped. The shame around money is SO real especially for me growing up poor ooft it’s so hard feeling like you need to be keeping up with everybody 🥲

I was older, 29 with 23,000. Paid it off before 33 when I got honest with myself. Now I am 48 and have never had a credit card since.

I’m 24, 2 credit cards and Zippay worth around $6K. Making minimum repayments but just not moving the money. I just got a personal loan to reconsolidate the money, I could almost cry. I’m a full time student and work part time while renting. It’s funny because my credit score is good but I had that money sitting there for years not getting moved. I’m so glad I got this loan, I can afford the repayments and got one where I can do extra payments without being penalised. I’m hoping to be debt free by the time I graduate uni (end of next year). I kept this to myself for like 2 years and it is horrible as I was so good with money for a long time until I got a credit card (for context I had 25K in shares by the time I was 20. Had to sell those shares because of a toxic relationship

I was in 40k debt at 23, car loan, student loans and personal debt. I’m still working on it (life changed recently unfortunately) but all I’ll say is, I’m very proud of the fact you’ve done this and you worked so hard to get out of it! Good on YOU! 🩷

Good on you !!! It’s ridiculous they would loan a 21 year old that much when, as you said, you could hardly afford the minimum payment. Well done paying it off

Thank you for being so transparent!! We need to talk about this more as a lot of us weren’t educated on financial literacy and WHY we end up in debt.

There honestly should be an enquiry into this because I to at 18 got a credit card with absolutely 0 knowledge and the bank was soo happy to give it to me even thought I didn’t even have a steady income! So scary. Thankfully it was only $4,000 but I still think back on how the heck they let me have it

The funny thing about debt, is it's usually never just about the money, there's other motivators.

I’m 24 and paying off 2 CC. I didn’t have the best example when it came to money when living at home and now lucky I have a well paying job and has been a massive lesson in life that if you can’t buy something twice, don’t spend the money, not even on a credit card. I should be completely cleared by late next year and will never ever make the mistake again

I’m so embarrassed to admit this but at 25 years old, after accumulating over 50k debt from 19 years old, I went bankrupt. I had absolutely no way to pay it off. I still feel so much shame and embarrassment over it but now a year and a half later I’ve got $5000 left. I’m lucky now because my job covers my car and petrol so I’ve been able to save so much money. However I don’t want to accumulate any more debt so it’s great now that I havnt got access to be able to open up those credit accounts. Thankyou for sharing because I admire your ability to be so honest. ❤️
