Ai draws from pre made material so it is inherently non original. but then neither is anyone who uses name generators, live plays, books, movies or anything else to help make there work. Ai is a tool. using a tool is a good thing. as long as your not using the tool for every job

As a DM, the point is having fun, however you get to that point. I personally have had a lot of success using different AI platforms to help plan sessions, or even during sessions (when the players do something unexpected and I need to look up stats ready quick for an encounter, or if I need to find a rule quickly). It makes things a lot faster if you know what you want to do. In other words, hating on a tool because someone uses it poorly is a bad take

way too many people in the comments are way too confident admitting they use ai. if you can’t even come up with a character by yourself, how exactly are you gonna tell a story?? d&d is working with other PEOPLE to tell a story. you have to imagine yourself in the shoes of your character, pick choices they would, remember the details of their life in all those decisions and battles… how exactly are you gonna do that if you don’t even understand the backstory you ‘generated’ for them??

If he created the character without any input whatsoever and just went with a randomised approach, then there was absolutely no creativity… however if he did what I do and spent nearly 3 days going back and forth with different ideas on a back story, specific details and argued with ChatGPT about style details… I’d say it’s creative.
