🌊 AMANZIMTOTI | KZN’S “SWEET WATERS” Just south of Durban lies one of KZN’s best-known seaside towns, Amanzimtoti, or simply “Toti” to the locals. 🌴🌊 But have you ever wondered where the name comes from? According to local history, in 1828 King Shaka and his army stopped in this area during a journey down the South Coast. After tasting water from the local river, he is said to have remarked that the water was sweet, giving rise to the name Amanzimtoti, meaning “sweet waters.” What began as a small coastal settlement would eventually develop into one of KZN’s popular holiday destinations, with the Indian Ocean, warm coastal climate and long stretches of beach drawing generations of visitors. Today, Amanzimtoti forms part of KZN’s beautiful Sapphire Coast, where swimming, surfing, fishing and that laid-back South Coast lifestyle are all part of the experience.
