Islam describes Allah with names and attributes that match these qualities: Al-Awwal — The First: nothing existed before Him. Al-Bāqī — The Everlasting: He remains forever and does not cease to exist. Al-Khāliq — The Creator: the One who brings creation into existence. Al-Qadīr — The All-Powerful: possessing power over all things. Al-‘Alīm — The All-Knowing: perfect knowledge of everything. Al-Hakīm — The All-Wise: creation with wisdom and purpose. As-Samad — The Self-Sufficient: everything depends upon Him, while He depends upon nothing. Al-Ahad — The One: the one and unique God. The Qur’an repeatedly tells us to look at creation, reflect and reason. The deeper we ask, “What must the cause of the universe be like?” the more striking the comparison becomes.
