@takingcare_ofgranny: Replying to @Dawn happy Monday yall. F*** dementia. And I’ll go shirtless if I want to. And yes, my wife is very much involved. #fyp #dementia #caregiver
What's her size? I think I could make you some pj that she couldn't take off on her own. I did it for my sister's severely autistic grandson, much for the same reason. He's a grown man but needs a diaper at night and was always taking it off and soiling himself, spreading it everywhere. He's had them for over a year now and its made the world of difference for their whole household. I'd happily make and gift you some 💕

Please look into anti-strip clothing. Possibly could help in this situation!

Have you thought about trying a purewick? It’s worth a try because it will help keep her dry at night.

Honey, y’all need some respite care. It’s time for y’all to take a break reset and let somebody come in at night maybe twice a week just to help y’all. And I know this is hard. I’ve been down that road. My prayers are with y’all as well as with granny.

The shirt on or off debate cracks me up. Why does anyone give a flying fudge if this amazing son in law, husband, and caregiver has a shirt on or not. This couple is showing the ups and downs of taking care of a loved one with dementia, not whether he has a shirt on or not. The struggle is real people. Thank the Lord that you are not going through what they are and pray you never have to instead of commenting about him not wearing a shirt. They are honoring their mother every day with a lot of patience and love. Give them a break. Sending prayers and empathy for you both and your beautiful mom!💜

A small trick that may or may not help….when she’s in bed do the diaper on backwards to where the pull tabs face backwards. Sometimes that small change in how they detach can deter a person until they are either distracted or fall back asleep again. When I work with geriatric/dementia patients in hospital this comes in handy.

If the man wants to not have a shirt on IN HIS OWN HOME btw he can 100% do that. Why is everyone focused on him not wearing a shirt? The same people who yell at him for not having a shirt on drool over the extremely buff men on TikTok that make thirst traps. It’s his own home why should he have to cater to your preferences?

I know it’s tough but it’s time for her to go to a nursing home. This is too much for both of you.

I have to wash urine soaked clothes multiple times a day. Do you use a certain type of laundry detergent? Sometimes I feel like the urine doesn’t come all the way out .

We had to put Velcro mittens on my grandmas hands when she was sleeping to keep her from doing this. They use them in the hospital as well. My grandma was also known for ripping out her IVs. Just a suggestion

Respite Care is greatly needed for you and your wife! Something to think about and truly consider! My prayers continue for you all. The days of having to explain “why this” and “why that” don’t worry about!!! This is the life y’all are living now and trust me I get it!! The real and raw times of Alzheimer’s and it doesn’t come with a specific time of these events on the clock!!Disregard the ignorance and dismissive behavior of others!!🙏🤗
