@katy_rayner: Childhood cancer affects the whole family. The reality is, as much as we love visits, the goodbyes are really bloody hard. Trying to tell a 4 year old why she has to stay in hospital and can’t leave. And trying to explain to a 9 year old why mummy and sister can’t go home with them. They shouldn’t have to understand any of this. They should be saying goodbye because it’s bedtime, not because one of them has to stay in hospital. Childhood cancer doesn’t just affect the child with cancer. It affects the whole family, including the siblings who are learning to cope with a life they never asked for.
