Crux Sacra sit mihi lux- English translation. Catholic protection prayer🇻🇦✝️ The Saint Benedict Medal is one of the most well-known and widely used religious medals in the Christian world. It is named after Saint Benedict of Nursia, who lived in the 6th century. Benedict is considered one of the founders of Western monastic life, and the rules he wrote guided thousands of monks and nuns for many centuries. According to tradition, Benedict was a holy and respected man, but some people were hostile toward him. One day, he was given a cup of poisoned wine. Before drinking it, he made the sign of the cross over the cup, and it immediately shattered. Another story says that he was given poisoned bread, but a raven carried the bread away and saved his life. Because of these events, Benedict became a symbol of resistance against evil and demonic influences. The cross on the medal is not just a decorative design. The letters around and on it are abbreviations of Latin prayers. These prayers reject Satan and evil and express trust in the protection of Christ through the Cross. On the vertical part of the cross: C.S.S.M.L. (Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux) - “May the Holy Cross be my light.” N.D.S.M.D. (Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux) - “May the dragon (Satan) never be my guide.” The letters around the edge of the medal come from a longer prayer: V.R.S. (Vade Retro Satana) - “Get behind me Satan” N.S.M.V. (Nunquam Suade Mihi Vana) - “Never suggest your vanities to me” S.M.Q.L. (Sunt Mala Quae Libas) - “Evil is the cup you offer me” I.V.B. (Ipse Venena Bibas) - “Drink your own poison” The medal became widely known in Germany during the 17th century. Later, it was officially approved by the Catholic Church and began to be used after receiving a blessing. Catholics wear it around their necks, attach it to rosaries, or keep it in their homes. The purpose is not to use it as a magical object, but as a reminder of faith and God's protection. For this reason, the Saint Benedict Medal is considered one of the most famous Christian symbols, representing both the power of the Cross and the Christian struggle against evil
