The biggest thing I hear — born and bred in north London— is the lengthening of the ee sound. You can hear when he says ‘thankfully’ it comes out as thankfullee.

Sorry but we have to also give homage to the Moroccans too for this sound, as this was a very Ladbroke Grove sound and while east at one time did have a connection to Ladbroke Grove due to early “Notting dales “ move after the great fire of London. The sound was born when the babies of the first generations of Caribbean, Moroccan, Portugese, alongside English and traveler’s communities kids mixing in the late 80s.. so by 1994, this was the accent of all of the teenagers of this direct area and then you have to introduce jungle and following garage raves into the mix, it become a west London sound (north, east and south had a different sound) but over the last 20 years grime & funky house, it became the sound of London, and now it’s becoming the fused into other accents around England…. I love watching this sound travel ❤️

I grew up 20 mins from Birmingham. In 1997, everyone I grew up with sounded the same. Then Ali G came out in 1998 and suddenly everyone at my school started talking with a new accent

Massively over represented is a very bad choice of words, Jamaica has a HUGE influence on Grime, hence the representation, nothing wasn’t over represented
