@jayaein_: pov: after you agreed to go to the prom with ni-ki, you’ve been looking forward to it the entire week. well, looking forward to it and overthinking it. you spent days worrying about your dress, your hair, your makeup, and somehow every possible thing that could go wrong. meanwhile, ni-ki seemed completely relaxed about the entire thing, which honestly wasn’t fair at all. then prom night finally arrived. you were still fixing the last few details when your phone buzzed. a message from ni-ki. “i’m outside.” your heart immediately started racing. after taking one final look in the mirror, you grabbed your things and headed outside. the moment you stepped out of your house, ni-ki looked up and completely froze. he just stood there staring for a few seconds, making you instantly nervous because apparently he had forgotten how to blink. you immediately noticed. which made you nervous. “what?” ni-ki blinked. once, twice, the looked away. which somehow made it worse. “what?” you asked again. ni-ki rubbed the back of his neck, suddenly looking awkward, which was unusual. very unusual. because this was ni-ki—the same guy who never ran out of things to say and always looked confident no matter the situation. yet right now, he looked completely speechless. “you look…” he stopped. then laughed nervously. “wow.” your face immediately warmed. “that’s your compliment?” “i’m trying.” you laughed. meanwhile, ni-ki still couldn’t stop staring. which honestly wasn’t helping. eventually, he opened the car door for you. then quietly muttered. “you look beautiful.” your heart immediately betrayed you again. the ride to the venue became ten times harder after that because every time you looked out the window, you could practically feel ni-ki looking at you. whenever you glanced his way, he’d quickly look back at the road, only to start staring again a few minutes later. “keep your eyes on the road.” ni-ki laughed. “i am.” “you’re not.” “i am.” “you’re literally staring.” “can you blame me?” you immediately looked away. because there was absolutely no winning against him. when you finally arrived at the venue, your nerves immediately returned. the entrance was crowded with students dressed up for the night. music echoed from inside the hall, lights reflected against the decorations, and everyone seemed busy taking pictures. you suddenly wanted to turn around. ni-ki seemed to notice. because before you could panic further, he gently offered his hand. you looked at it, then took it tightly. the moment the two of you entered together, heads immediately turned. people looked. whispered. stared. your stomach immediately twisted because suddenly it felt like every single person in the room was watching. “ni-ki.” he looked down. “hmm?” “everyone’s staring.” ni-ki casually intertwined his fingers with yours. then smiled. “just let them stare.” you laughed nervously. easy for him to say. he looked good every day. meanwhile, you felt like your soul was leaving your body. still, having ni-ki beside you helped more than you’d ever admit. until you noticed someone—the girl. the same girl who had asked ni-ki to prom before. she was standing across the room. and unfortunately, she was glaring directly at you. you immediately looked away, pretending not to notice. which lasted approximately three minutes. because eventually she walked over toward ni-ki. your stomach dropped. “can i talk to you for a second?” ni-ki looked confused, then glanced at you. you forced a smile. “it’s okay.” he looked unsure. very unsure. but eventually followed her. and suddenly—you were alone. which shouldn’t have been a problem. except it was. because the conversation seemed longer than expected. and longer. and longer. you looked around, but ni-ki is nowhere. then the lights suddenly dimmed. the room immediately erupted into cheers.
