A Romanian couple, who killed two men after drugging them unconscious to steal cash and jewellery during sexual liaisons, have each been jailed for 17 years. Adina Mihai, 31, who posed as a sex worker, and her partner Madalin Dumitru, 30, arranged to meet men paying for sexual services at their homes. Four men were drugged when glasses of wine were secretly spiked with the powerful sedative gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), so the pair could steal from them. Two of the victims, Malcolm King, 80, and Gary Mouat, 36, died. At a previous hearing, Mihai and Dumitru, of Ilford, pleaded guilty to two charges of manslaughter and to administering poison to two other men, who cannot be identified. Oxford Crown Court heard that after contact was made through a website, and arrangements made by phone, Mihai and Dumitru drove to the home address of each victim. While Dumitru waited nearby, Mihai would enter the victim’s home. There, she would persuade the victim to drink alcohol laced with GBL to render them unconscious. Once the victim was unconscious, Mihai would look for property to steal. Then she would rejoin Dumitru, leaving the victim alone and unconscious. The court heard Mr King had made contact with Mihai on 20 August 2024 and arranged to meet her at his home in Gloucestershire that evening. His body was discovered the following morning by his housekeeper, who found an empty bottle of wine and two wine glasses, and his Rolex watch was stolen. The sister of the pensioner told the court his death had been “devastating”. “He was not just my brother, he was someone I loved deeply and someone who had always been there for me when I needed him most”, she said. It was reported that Mr Mouat’s wife and son were away for the night of 12 July 2025 when he contacted Mihai on Vivastreet website. The 37-year-old businessman was found dead at his home in Oxfordshire the following morning by family friends. In a victim impact statement, his nine-year-old son said the defendants had ruined his life. “Why did you have to kill my dad, you could have just taken the money, he was really kind, he would have given it to you.”

Jailing the pair today, Mrs Justice Brunner KC said: “Many hearts have been broken" due to the actions of the defendants, whose roles were "equally significant". She said the pair had a "joint plan to covertly drug the men" and gave "little thought to the consequences of your actions".
