Something I looked for when I was dating was someone calm. My mum’s house was always so loud and angry. Living with my gran was the opposite. We were quiet, calm and loving. Whenever I’m overwhelmed, my husband is there to love me and help me relax. He knows all of my emotional tells. His family are not loud but supportive and calm. I couldn’t go back to a loud house.

My ex had no friends. I wish I saw this as the huge red flag that is was when I met him. He was jealous of the time I spent with my friends and cut me off from them when we moved in together. Just 1 of 1000 reasons I am better to have left him.

My number one, I need a man who respects all women. You came from a woman you need to respect them. You can dislike a woman/not approve of their careers/how they choose to live ect. But you do not hate/belittle or speak poorly of women. As a single mum raising a son, I will bring him up to always respect women.

I’m happily married (30 years) but I think about what I would be looking for given the current human conditions and I think emotional regulation would be at the top of the list. The indicator would be his behavior driving in heavy traffic. I have that now and I try not to take it for granted.

To be clear I think my list is bare minimum and my last 2 LT relationships didn’t come close to meeting it. they all had to compete with how well I treat myself and how well my girlfriends treat me. Because an “good” man is just an average woman (and I was SO GOOD on my own, my fiancé has added so much to my life!)

An older woman like me said on this app that she created a list of 100 things and her now husband embodies every single one of them. So much so that she wasn’t specific about him having hair (on his head) and he has hair everywhere. Anyway, I did the same and somehow ended up with a list of 120. 😂
