@southlondondaily: All London bus cabs will now be fitted with air conditioning, after bus drivers took action following record heat this summer, which forced some to work in temperatures as high as 50 degrees, causing heatstroke, dehydration and fatigue, with a number of drivers having to stop during service as they physically couldn’t continue. General Secretary of union Unite, which represented the bus drivers, Sharon Graham said: “Inadequate cooling systems in buses have left drivers having to endure appalling conditions.” At present, cooling systems take air from outside and circulate it around, which can only lower temperatures by two or three degrees during heatwaves. Cabs will now also be fitted with UV protective film to reduce the risk of skin cancer. TfL has committed to implementing the upgrades by May 2027.
