@ourlove1001: Former NFL running back LeShon Johnson has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for operating a massive dogf*ghting business involving hundreds of animals. Johnson, 55, received a 60-month prison sentence, three years of supervised release and a $30,000 fine on Sept. 10. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, his operation resulted in the “D*eath or serious bodily Inj*ry” of hundreds of pit bulls. Investigators said Johnson had been running the operation since at least 2007, breeding and selling dogs for F*ghting across the country. Authorities eventually seized 190 dogs from his Oklahoma properties. Federal officials said that was the largest number of dogs ever taken from a single person in a federal dogf*ghting case. Evidence presented at trial showed Johnson advertised some animals as “champions” or “grand champions,” labels indicating they had won multiple F*ghts. Prosecutors said he also sold puppies from selected bloodlines and charged breeding fees, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars. Johnson was convicted in August 2025 on six charges connected to violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act. His attorney had asked for probation, citing serious medical conditions including dementia and Parkinson’s disease. He argued Johnson had followed all requirements while awaiting sentencing and had needed a daily caretaker for two years. The judge still imposed the five-year sentence. Johnson previously played in the NFL from 1994 to 1999 with the Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants. His football career ended decades ago.
