We budget $10K for emergencies and $10K for medical expenses. The account hasn't been to that value in some time now, but we put money back from every check to reach our goal. Once the account is at $20K, we start using the extra paycheck money for other things. In an emergency, we'd have to use a CC. It'd take a few days to get $5K out. We're pretty frugal. We budget money for a car fund (ours are all 10+ years old and paid off) and an insurance fund (we pay in full each year and refill the fund to get better yearly rates / discounts at renewal). While all of my friends are financing new UTV's, Harley's, and Beamers, I'm just rocking my old stuff trying to reach financial freedom.

10 years ago I would have been screwed. Now I have a 5k saving for unexpected expenses and a HYSA with 9 months living expenses in case I get laid off. Just had to pull 3k for a dog emergency and was so grateful to not have to consider money when it came time to making decisions about my dogs care.
