The Yellow River was not the only origin of Chinese civilization. Chinese civilization developed from multiple regional centers, including the Yellow and Yangtze River basins. The Liangzhu archaeological site along the lower Yangtze River was an important center of early civilization. After Liangzhu declined due to major flooding, some of its population migrated and interacted with communities around the Yellow River. Chinese civilization emerged through the interaction and integration of many regional cultures.
