When I first played as a kid, I saved Chloe. Replaying as an adult though, after engaging in all the optional content, dialogue and world building, I chose Arcadia Bay. It feels more like the proper ending to me- Chloe was NEVER meant to be saved without great loss on the other side to balance the scales. She is a character whose story was never meant to be a happy one- she was destined to hurt at every turn, to lose everything she cared about, and to, ultimately, die on that bathroom floor. Chloe’s story is one of tragedy, and I can’t justify condemning a town full of people in order to rewrite it, no matter how tragic it is or how much I’d have liked to be able to.

I think it fell into place for me when you get the wheelchair storyline with Chloe. Everything we did/do, kinda makes it worse no matter how we try to fix it.

i think that the "museum" you walk through in the time void of every important moment with chloe right before the choice to sacrifice her is one of the most brutal and amazing moments in a video game

I thought the same thing!! I kept thinking there was no way we wouldn’t eventually be faced with a choice between saving someone and accepting that time and reality have to play out the way they were supposed to. When I reached the end, I CRIED because I was really hoping my way of thinking was wrong. 😭 I think the moral of the game is that you can’t change the outcome of something, no matter how much you want to. Sometimes you just have to accept that certain things are meant to happen, even when you desperately wish you could change them.

The question becomes, how much does that person mean to you? Can you live with yourself after? How selfish are you? I loved the choice at the end of the first game. It really makes you think hard about what you prioritize.

Bae over bay always. But I get both endings, they are great in their own way. I just could never let my person (really loved you said it like that) die. Great let's play! Sad to see that so many bayer are feeling morally superior again in the comments :D I love LiS2 but do not care that much for the Deck Nine Games. They just lack the emotional depths 1 and 2 have so so much.
