I rest in the middle ground of both arguments, I would have preferred if the mtf covers waited like a month (after the song was dropped) at least before being posted so we could have our moment of spotlight longer than a day, but at the end of the day I dont mind if trans women relate to the idea of being buried under the wrong name because it happens to ALL types of trans people.

As a trans man myself, it kinda hurts not having much representation for us tho. when the song first came out I was pretty happy and I felt excited to hear something I can relate to, and I must admit that it did hurt a little bit when people started making the song about identities other than transmasc ones;;;; I haven't been mean to anyone abt it but I can understand how other trans men say its ftm erasure lol

It feels like a lot of the trans man community is trying reject any chance at connection with other types of trans people because they're afraid of their voices being overshadowed again but fostering that connection is what may truly lead to being heard without being othered from the queer community

there is this weird intangible fear many ppl in the queer community have that representation is limited, that there is finite value from a thing that can be taken through headcannons and covers. (generally trans men react stronger because of a lack of innate representation but many people do this.) as a community we have to realize one of us getting represented is all of us, we can find connection to each other by the constants we experience.

If we break down the perception of “this can only be used by this type or queer person” that all of us would have more opportunities for representation

It’s like if there was a song about existing as a black person and someone went and made a Hispanic cover of it changing the examples and messages to cover their issues. Sure, the song still means what it means, and obviously similarly oppressed people are going to find relatability in the song, that doesn’t mean people aren’t aloud to feel some kind of way about it

Well it's not that other trans people can't identify with it, that's completely normal, it's that they're grabbing a piece of representation that the transmasc community NEVER GETS and turning it transfem, despite there being a lot more transfem songs and representation in media.
