@babymommadoc: What you really need to know about an abnormal Pap smear 👇🏽 A Pap smear is a screening test, not a diagnosis. Its job? To catch precancerous changes before they ever turn into cervical cancer. 🙌🏾 If it comes back abnormal, don’t panic, but don’t ignore it either. ✅ The next step is often a colposcopy, where we take a closer look at the cervix under magnification. ✅ We may do a biopsy of any areas that look suspicious. ✅ Results can range from mild changes (that may go away on their own) to more severe changes that need treatment. 🧠 The key takeaway: Pap smears save lives. When done regularly and followed up properly, they can prevent most cases of cervical cancer. So if you’ve been putting yours off, this is your sign to call your OB/GYN.
