@nkwazimag: Plot twist: El Mukuka was supposed to be a rapper. Somehow, we ended up with an international DJ, producer, gin co-founder… and a man who has become very good at keeping certain parts of his life off the internet. Naturally, we had questions. El Mukuka joins us this Friday at 13:00hrs! Coming soon. You’ll want to catch the full conversation. #NkwaziUnfiltered #ElMukuka #NkwaziMagazine #Zambia
If someone describes music as “dunka dunka”, they’re usually using it as sound imitation/slang ,it can mean music with a strong, repetitive, heavy beat.

he makes house music. majority of Zambians don't like house music. he just needs to come to terms with that fact

I think this is a misguided position. Zambians generally are not exposed to House Music, nothing to do with his complexion. Same way Hip Hop would struggle in DRC …societies are different.

He doesn’t associate himself or rather embrace Zambian culture that much and he expects people to to listen 😂

I honestly don’t think this is necessarily about skin colour. If anything, colourism in Zambia often tends to favour lighter skinned people. I think the bigger factor here might be the genre itself deep house isn’t necessarily as mainstream with the Zambian audience, so naturally the reach and recognition may be different. Sometimes it’s less about who you are and more about whether the sound you’re offering connects with the majority audience.

Sure he’s got a point but he’s hating by saying “Zambians focus on artists that’ll never break out of Zambia” if people don’t like your stuff then they simply don’t like it that’s what it is.

When people talk about Zambian house DJ’s/producers, his name is the first to come most people’s minds. His light skin and racial ambiguity has actually propelled him further than his darker skinned Zambian counterparts.

In food terms you want Zambians to start appreciating cornflakes more as a main meal instead of ubwali!!
