Shams Tabrizi was a Persian mystic, poet, and spiritual teacher who lived during the 12th and 13th centuries. Though little is known with certainty about his early life, he is believed to have been born in Tabriz, in present-day Iran. Unlike many scholars of his time, Shams spent much of his life traveling, seeking wisdom through direct experience rather than formal institutions.
