As an oncologist, these lumps go straight to the top of my list. 🚩 Not all concerning lumps are hard and painless. That oversimplified narrative is giving people false reassurance and I won’t stay quiet about it. 🚩 1. PAINFUL LUMPS CAN BE CANCER Pain does not rule out malignancy. Certain cancers — including some breast cancers, lymphomas, and soft tissue tumors — can absolutely be painful. Never let pain be the reason you dismiss a lump. 🚩 2. SOFT LUMPS CAN BE CANCER Hard and fixed is the classic teaching. But soft lumps deserve attention too. Lymphoma, certain breast cancers, and other malignancies can present as lumps that feel soft or even moveable. Texture alone does not tell the whole story. 🚩 3. A LUMP THAT’S BEEN THERE “FOREVER” STILL NEEDS EVALUATION Some cancers grow slowly. Some people normalize what they shouldn’t. If a lump has been there and you’ve never had it evaluated — now is the time. 🚩 4. LOCATION MATTERS MORE THAN YOU THINK A lump above the left collarbone — Virchow’s node — is cancer until proven otherwise in my mind. A lump in the armpit that won’t go away warrants breast and lymph node evaluation. Where it is matters as much as what it feels like. 🚩 5. NEW PLUS ONE OTHER SYMPTOM CHANGES EVERYTHING A lump combined with unexplained weight loss, drenching night sweats, fatigue, or fever takes the conversation somewhere completely different. That combination is something I move on quickly. Don’t wait. Any new lump that persists beyond two to four weeks deserves medical evaluation. Not next month. Now. Push for answers. Your body is trying to tell you something. 🩺 If you made it this far — continue following this series. You must like the content. Follow for more. 🎗️ Not medical advice. Always talk to your personal doctor. ##flagit##cancersymptoms##earlydetection##oncologist##ListenToYourBody
