as soon as we started to have problems I convinced my partner to go to Costco and we bought two boxes which is basically enough for four oil changes for our two cars, two each. he probably thought I was being stupid. now who's the smarty

In the 1970s US there was oil rationing to the extent people could only get 4 gallons at a time AND could only purchase gas on even or odd days based on their license plate number. This was because of the oil embargo and Revolution in Iran. Makes you realize why in That 70s Show, Red was irritated with Eric for asking for gas money and always driving around. But also how big of a deal that Eric had his own car.

Its on purpose to get more profit and to drive prices higher, to make motoroil is not that more expensive than to make diesel or other oils, it was way way overpriced already. Remember, America is super capitalistic and compagnies in America are obliged by law to maximize profits for their shareholders. It is the same with things like some medicines (like insulin) that are a 1000 !! times more expensive than in Europe. Greetz from Europe.

only 2 gallons of lubricant oil can be distilled from a 42 gallon barreel of crude. About half of that is added to ultra low sulfur diesel to give it viscosity.
