“You’re just jealous of her”🤨 Saying women are “just jealous of Sydney Sweeney” is honestly crazy. You can think Sydney is beautiful AND think this ad is inappropriate. Those things can coexist. And “it’s just an ad for sports betting” doesn’t automatically make it okay. People of all ages are seeing this, including young girls who are already growing up in a sports culture where female athletes are constantly sexual!zed, mocked, and reduced to their appearance. As someone who works in marketing, what bothers me even more is seeing people defend it with, “Well, it got attention, so it worked.” That is such a dangerous way to look at marketing, especially when younger generations are consuming this content and learning what gets rewarded with attention. Outrage marketing can generate clicks, conversations, and engagement. That doesn’t automatically make it good marketing or a good message. Women have spent YEARS fighting to be taken seriously as athletes, only to have our bodies and looks turned into the punchline again. The issue isn’t Sydney Sweeney. The issue is the message. Women’s sports should be celebrated for the strength, talent, athleticism, dedication, and achievements of the women competing, not because their bodies can be used to sell something. And no, calling that out doesn’t mean you’re jealous.
