Giving my energy. Giving my patience. Giving my evenings. Giving pieces of myself long after the school day ended. And too often, my family got whatever was left. I kept telling myself that this was just what being a “good teacher” required. Until I realized… I didn’t need permission to choose differently. Choosing my family didn’t mean I stopped caring about my students. Leaving teaching didn’t erase the years I gave to the classroom. It simply meant I was finally ready to build a life where my career didn’t get the best of me while the people I loved most got the rest.
