It was tough, but with the right prep you can deffo ace it! I would recommend using a course provider if at all possible. They really help you nail the right technique. Plus, once the pre-seen material drops, they map out potential exam scenarios. I sat mine in nov last year and the question was pretty much as my tutor predicted (although not always the case). That said, given your experience and ADIT qualification, self-study is deffo doable, just a bit harder.

There is a lot of information to absorb and apply, but if you've been working in tax you should be ok. I worked in audit and found CTA hard because I was on the accounts side of things, I passed all first time as I just focused on question practice.

Hi! I attempted the CTA (put it on pause for now because it’s so hard and got ACA instead) it is really hard but if you have experience in the area and can write technical advisory pieces then yes it’s entirely possible with correct exam technique. I’m ATT if that helps!! 💗💗 go for it!

Re is it worth it - Why do you want to do it? Are you at HMRC again? Not so sure it would be worth it for a career at HMRC but better for outside for sure

Currently doing the CTA, doing the advanced technical papers at the moment. I think the application would be good to take at the same time as ur AT. I definitely think its doable. I’d also recommend Tolleys x

I do know someone who did CTA fully at home - self funded with the bare minimum so no lectures or course time. They passed everything first time. Definitely is a smart person for sure but can be done ☺️

I’ve not done application yet, currently trying to do advanced tech - they’re tough but not impossible and I think having that much experience will seriously help because you’ll have the technical knowledge you’ll just need to perfect the technique side of it
