@justtracyjustcause: Autumn leaves. It always does. Summer makes promises in green. Autumn keeps the receipts. By September, the field can no longer pretend. What was planted has grown. What was neglected has withered. What was tended may finally be gathered. That is the law of the harvest: We do not reap what we intended. We reap what we cultivated. And then the leaves begin to fall. We call it dying because we see something beautiful letting go. But the tree knows better. It is not surrendering its life. It is releasing what has completed its purpose so that winter cannot take the whole thing down. Autumn does not punish the tree. It teaches the tree what it can no longer afford to carry. There is wisdom in that. Not everything that leaves us is a loss. Some things must leave because they have finished teaching us. Some because they were never ours to keep. Some because carrying them through another winter would cost too much. Autumn does not apologize for changing colour. She does not remain green to make summer comfortable. She turns gold, crimson and fire—and then releases every former version of herself to the wind. At my age, I understand her. I have planted in poor soil. Watered people who would not grow. Fed institutions that consumed the seed and blamed the field. Stayed through seasons that should have ended years before. But I have also cultivated truth. I planted questions. I tended responsibility. I protected the small lives entrusted to me. I kept walking toward HOME—even when I could not yet see it beyond the trees. Now comes the harvest. I will gather what nourishes. I will preserve what is true. I will return what never belonged to me. And I will let the rest fall. The leaves do not ask permission to become earth again. They simply let go. So will I. Not bitterly. Not empty-handed. Not defeated. In living colour. Resonance: “Autumn Leaves” — Eva Cassidy Just Tracy, Just ’Cause. Parsimony. Clarity. Virtue.
