Spirituality is not exempt from accountability. Every industry is experiencing a reckoning right now — systems are being questioned, harmful leaders are being exposed, and people who were once silenced are finding the courage to speak. The spiritual community is not somehow above that cleansing. There are people calling themselves gurus, shamans, healers, teachers, prophets and spiritual leaders who have harmed people. Some have lawsuits. Some have patterns of manipulation, exploitation, coercion and spiritual abuse. And yet, because they have built a following or mastered spiritual language, they have convinced themselves that they are beyond accountability. They are not. And we have to be careful with the spiritualized narrative that says, “Don’t talk about what happened to you because you’re giving it energy.” Yes — there comes a point where constantly centering the person who harmed you can drain you. But silence is not always healing. Sometimes speaking is accountability. Sometimes testimony protects the next person. Sometimes bearing witness is part of the assignment. Sometimes exposing a harmful pattern IS an act of love for the collective. “Protect your energy” should never become spiritual language used to create an environment where abusers are protected and survivors are shamed into silence. Some of us are here to witness. Some of us are here to discern. Some of us are here to ask the questions people hoped would never be asked. And some of us are here to make sure what happened in the dark does not remain there. If you have used spirituality, spiritual authority, somebody’s vulnerability, grief, faith or desire for healing to exploit them, understand that titles will not protect you forever. What is hidden has a way of being revealed. And if you have experienced spiritual abuse: you are allowed to tell the truth about your experience. The renaissance includes us too. The cleansing includes the spiritual industry too. And accountability is spiritual. 🧿⚖️🔥 #SpiritualAbuse #SpiritualAccountability #Discernment #HealingCommunity #SpiritualTikTok
