This is why responsible tourism and ethical animal encounters matter so much. 🐋 Watch this and ask yourself: what’s wrong with this video? → Too many boats, too many people → Guests told to chase the whale shark to keep up → Swimming faster, swarming closer, diving deeper — all for “the shot” → Excessive splashing, crowding, zero space given → A wild animal, visibly stressed, with nowhere to go This was our experience snorkeling with whale sharks in the Maldives, and it was genuinely disgusting to witness, not to mention terrifying and dangerous as we were repeatedly kicked and pushed under water by others. Had we known this is how the tour would run, we never would have taken part. No photo or video is worth an animal’s stress and safety. The very next day, we did a manta ray excursion and it was a completely different world — we were told to hold our position, stay still, no splashing, no chasing, no touching, and just let the rays choose to come to us. That’s what ethical wildlife tourism actually looks like. Please, please do your research before booking any wildlife encounter.
